More than ever before, citizens are demanding immediate access to information about how their local government functions. Technology is changing the way we communicate and interact with not only our communities, but the world. It has also become increasingly important to encourage citizens to play a more active role and stay connected with their cities/counties in ways that are more convenient and accessible.
Open Government transparency initiatives have grown from a desire to create a more accessible and citizen-centric government that fosters communication, accountability and trust. By taking advantage of technology, government leaders have another opportunity for government and citizens to work together in shaping the future of their community.
Transparency allows citizens to be informed about the priorities of their government officials, and to see how their tax dollars are being spent. Transparency provides for, and encourages, two-way participation and communication between the city/county and residents, businesses and those interested in the operations of local government.
The Alliance for Innovation webinar Transparency: Fulfilling the Promise of Open Government will take an in depth look at the concepts and decision-making involved in providing a transparent and open local government. We will look at some of the tools used for financial transparency and will hear from Alliance members who will provide case studies regarding their response to transparency in their communities.
This webinar features the following case studies from the following local governments:
- Fort Collins, CO
- Palm Bay, FL
- Rock Hill, SC
- Surprise, AZ
